NOVASTAT 5MG Tablet** is a prescription medication that contains Rosuvastatin (5 mg), a cholesterol-lowering drug from the statin class. It works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in cholesterol production in the liver. This helps in reducing LDL (bad cholesterol), increasing HDL (good cholesterol), and lowering triglyceride levels in the blood. It is commonly prescribed for individuals with high cholesterol, familial hypercholesterolemia, or those at increased risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack or stroke.

The 5 mg dosage is usually considered a starting or maintenance dose, especially for those who are elderly, have liver or kidney impairment, or require gradual dose escalation. It is taken once daily, at a fixed time, with or without food. Results typically begin to appear within 2–4 weeks, with full effect seen in about 6 weeks.

Common side effects include muscle pain, tiredness, headache, abdominal discomfort, and nausea. Though rare, some individuals may develop muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis), liver issues, or increased blood sugar levels, so regular monitoring of liver enzymes and cholesterol levels is recommended.
