NOVASTAT 20MG Tablet is a prescription medication that contains Rosuvastatin Calcium (20 mg), a statin class drug that works by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver. It is primarily used to manage dyslipidemia, particularly by lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad" cholesterol), raising high-density lipoprotein (HDL or "good" cholesterol), and lowering triglycerides in the blood. It is also prescribed as a preventive measure in patients at high risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, stroke, or artery blockages, especially those with diabetes, hypertension, or a family history of heart problems.

The tablet is usually taken once daily, with or without food, preferably at the same time every day. Results can be observed within a few weeks, but maximum benefit is typically seen after 4–6 weeks of consistent use. It is important to continue taking this medicine even if cholesterol levels improve, as stopping abruptly may reverse the benefits.

Common side effects may include muscle pain, headache, weakness, nausea, abdominal discomfort, or constipation. Rarely, patients may experience serious muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis), liver problems, or increased blood sugar levels, especially in those with predisposing risk factors.

This medication should be used with caution in people with liver or kidney problems, and is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Regular monitoring of lipid levels, liver enzymes, and renal function is usually advised during long-term use. Combining this tablet with a healthy lifestyle—including a low-fat diet, exercise, and avoidance of tobacco and alcohol—can greatly improve outcomes.
